Reimagining music through

a Deaf lens.

As the Music Director of Meat Expectations, an all-deaf musical, I bring a perspective to music that is both rare and transformative. My Deaf identity allows me to experience rhythm, tone, and emotional resonance in ways that differ from hearing traditions — yet connect audiences across both worlds.

What makes my music direction unique is not simply the mechanics of leading musicians, but the artistry of translating sound into a fully embodied, visual, and communal experience. I focus on clarity of rhythm, strong visual cues, and creating an environment where Deaf and hearing performers can trust the beat together.

Highlights of my approach include:

  • Bridging Deaf and hearing traditions: ensuring musicians, vocalists, and Deaf performers are united by shared timing and flow.

  • Visualizing rhythm: developing cues and movement systems that allow everyone to “see” the music.

  • Collaborative leadership: empowering musicians to feel confident, supported, and in sync with the story being told.

  • Accessibility as creativity: transforming what could be seen as a barrier into a source of innovation.

Music, for me, is not only heard — it’s seen, felt, and lived. My role as a music director is to prove that Deaf leadership in musical spaces isn’t only possible--

it’s revolutionary.
